Incorporating 4th-Week Progress Report Feedback into Courses
4th-week progress reports guide students as they prepare for the coming weeks of the class and midterms. In addition to providing students with an update on their performance in the course, 4th-week progress reports are an opportunity to offer students supportive feedback while ensuring that they are connected to academic resources across campus.
The following strategies can help ensure that students are prepared to incorporate feedback from 4th-week progress reports as they continue in EKU courses:
Base 4th-week progress reports on a meaningful assignment to ensure that students have an accurate indication of their progress in the course;
Provide specific suggestions as to how students can be successful in the course as assignments and projects become more challenging;
Provide students with formative, success-oriented feedback;
Invite students to reflect on learning in the course;
Provide a brief check-in survey to assess learning and progress;
Offer opportunities for students to build community (in the course and on campus) through small-group work, collaborative assignments, or informal online spaces for students to check in with each other and establish supportive networks;
Show students how to revise a recent assignment based on feedback in the course; and
Highlight ways in which course content connects to future assignments or goals.
Marking “Tutoring Recommended” on the 4th-week reports will ensure that tutoring centers for the appropriate subject(s) receive these lists of students and reach out to them directly. In addition, please share these resources directly with students via Blackboard, email, or other class communication channels:
